Best Cash Back Credit Card – Citi Double Cash – July 2015

citidouble200

The cash back credit card market is super competitive these days, with many great cards to choose from. But there’s one clear winner in the cash back vertical right now, and that’s the Citi Double Cash credit card, by a long shot.

Why is Citi Double Cash so great? Well, what other credit card can you get 1% cash back on all purchases, all the time (pretty typical for this sort of card). The kicker is when you pay off the charge, even a couple months later, you get ANOTHER 1% cash back, just for paying it off! This is not just for a short time, with this card this is what you will get all the time and there are no limit to the rewards you can earn.

While I’m not positive that this card is a free credit score credit card (some Citi Credit Cards are), who cares, you can get your free credit scores somewhere else. This card kicks butt in the cash back category like no other card out there right now does.

Quick Overview of the Citi® Double Cash Credit Card

Citi® Double Cash Card – Get 1% cash back on purchases, and another 1% cash back when you pay it off. No rewards limits, no caps, no restrictions, it’s for good. There’s no card out there at this time which offers double cash back like this one does. No annual fee. It also offers 0% intro APR on purchases & balance transfers for 15 months.

I’ve been told that many people who receive an invitation to apply for this card are told to go to www.citi.com/applynowdoublecash or www.citi.com/doublecashapplynow, both of which lead you to the same place and are the same credit card as the one I’m reviewing here.

The Great Things About This Card

Double Cash Back – Obviously the focus of this card is to provide the best cash back in the industry, and they do that job well here. With 1% on purchases, then another 1% when you pay off those purchases, you just can’t beat that.

No rotating bonus categories – I’ve never been a fan of the rotating cash back categories, but you need to enroll in each one, every quarter, or you don’t enjoy the savings. I’ve always found it to be a pain, so the fact that this card doesn’t have that is a plus in my book.

No limits on rewards – Unlike some other cash back credit cards, the Citi® Double Cash card doesn’t have any caps or limits on the amount of rewards you can rack up. So keep maxing out your cash back opportunities with this card, and you’re good to go.

0% for 15 months on purchases – This 0% period is very good, feel free to take advantage of it. When you do pay off your purchases, you will still earn the additional 1% for paying off your purchases, even if it’s a year later.

The Not So Great Things About This Card

No Rotating Rewards Categories – Citi® Double Cash card doesn’t offer the rotating categories with something like 5% off, which you have to enroll in periodically like some other cash back credit cards. To me that is just a pain, and something I rarely take advantage of. The automatic double cash back is much more valuable in my opinion, so I wouldn’t miss that at all.

There is a Balance Transfer Fee – You do have the 0% for 15 months on purchases and balance transfers, but they also charge a balance transfer fee of 3%, which is pretty typical. But if you’re looking for no transfer fees, this card may not be for you.

Should You Apply For Citi® Double Cash Card?

If you’re looking for the best all around cash back credit card, I would highly recommend this one. In my opinion, you just can’t beat the amount of cash back you it gives you. It’s also provides a great incentive to pay off your purchases too. If this sounds good to you, I say go apply for yours now.

I had recently received an invitation to apply for this card, on the invitation it told me to go to http://www.citi.com/doublecashapplynow as mentioned above. Funny thing is one of my co-workers mentioned he received an invitation for the same card, but he was told to visit http://www.citi.com/applynowdoublecash instead. I checked them both, it is the exact same card. At first it didn’t sound too amazing, but when I really started doing some research – it’s true, you can’t beat this card as far as the cash back goes. I’ve applied for mine and am anxiously awaiting to use it and get my double cash back.
